My mother loved the ocean her whole life. 🌊

She grew up near the coast, spent every summer of her childhood with sand between her toes, and raised us the same way — beach trips every July, no exceptions. Even when money was tight. Even when she was tired. Even when we complained about the long drive.

The ocean was her reset button. Her happy place. Her home away from home.

So when she got sick, one of the first things she said was: "I want to go back to the beach one more time."

I've thought about that trip every day since. And one of the things I keep coming back to is how close she came to not having a swimsuit. How close she came to sitting on the beach in her clothes, feeling like she didn't belong in the water anymore.

It let her be fully present for one of the most precious days of our lives.
